....matthews in a few years.
you can't have a 5-6 minute a night scrub who plays 40-50 games with the 'C', just ask the oilers.

Exactly. Go with no captain until one is ready.

Reilly and Matthews seem like they are going to be the leaders going forward. Give Rielly an A and let them get to that leadership plateau naturally.

Captain Nathan Horton. You know he's gonna be there for years to come and if you want to name one of the up and coming kids Captain later he'll be fine with it.

I'm hearing that Cecil will be named the next captain. If he isn't, I'll donate $2000 to a local pizzeria!

Rielly seems like the only one who could be an option right now, who knows about in a couple years with new guys coming in.

I'm not even sure Rielly is ready, but if I had to choose he'd be my choice as well.

No need to rush it and definitively no need to place that amount of pressure on one of the younger guys at this time. Hand out a few "A" for this season and see where it goes.

Agreed, seems to have a good mindset on and off the ice but I wouldn't give him it this season.

Tyler Bozak(2009), Nazem Kadri(2010) and James van Riemsdyk(2012) are the longest tenured Leafs, but the organization has been systematically moving out most of the players inherited from the Burke/Nonis era and may not want to promote someone to the captaincy that they plan on moving out of the organization in the near future."

Thanks Mike, for still finding a way to suggest trading Kadri in a blog that barely has anything to do with him.
Just like Rielly, Kadri just signed a long term deal. He is not getting traded, no matter how many times you suggest it in your blogs.

The only reason management might want a captain this year is because its the oh so important centennial year.
I think this management team is intelligent enough not to rush making a captain simply for the prestige/publicity of having a captain during the 100 year anniversary.

I think the likely candidates for captain in the future are Rielly and maybe Matthews, but we should hold off on that until someone shows they are a leader without a silly "C" on their sweater. Let them prove they are a leader before we anoint them as one (lest we end up with another Phaneuf). Given some time, a leader will arise and management's choice should become obvious.

Yup. And also. It's not about movie players because they came from the Burke era. It's about rebuilding. It doesn't matter who acquired/drafted the player, this management team will evaluate the players on their performance and the team's needs.

Hopefully, otherwise we'll be trading our best player in Rielly just because Burkie drafted him.(great pick Burke!)

Go without a captain, for this season at least....It's not a big deal.

Give A's to three or four of Rielly, Lupul, Polak, Komarov, Bozak and Laich and roll with those for the time being.
